Lock & Co Hatters
The origins of Lock & Co stretch back hundreds of years on St. James Street in London. In 1676 Robert Davis opens a hat shop. A couple of years later in 1686 George Lock establishes a coffee house at No. 6 St. James Steet. Lock's grandson, James Lock, is apprenticed to Davis' son and marries the daughter of Robert Davis. The families, now joined by marriage move across the street and open what is now considered the world's oldest hat shop at No. 6 St. James Place in 1765. In 1849 Lock & Co creates a custom hat for Edward Coke resulting in the iconic Coke hat. In 1908 Winston Churchill wears a silk top hat from Lock at his wedding and later returns for his trademark Cambridge and Homburg hats. Lock continues to produce luxury hats for all the most prominent people worldwide such as Charlie Chaplin, Oscar Wilde, Jacqueline Kennedy, and many others. With over 300 years in business, Lock is truly unrivaled in their quality and expertise.
